Glencoe Community Compost Site

You can find our village compost site screened behind the stone wall at the entrance to the village.

 compost1

The site was developed by Lochaber Environmental Group (LEG) and extensively revamped in 2012 with the aid of an "Awards for All" grant. The site is currently managed by Nigel Wombell with the help of local volunteers. Composting green waste and larger quantities of garden material at the site provides a simple way of diverting organic matter from landfill to be composted for local community use. Our community compost site can work alongside and complement home composting.

When you bring your garden material please sort it into the receiving bays which are all labelled.

  1. For grass cuttings and small amounts of hedge clippings – green material
  2. For shrubby material – brown material
  3. For larger branches

Please bring:

  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge clippings
  • Branches less than 4 inches diameter
  • Weed and leaves

Please Don’t bring:

  • Soil and stones
  • Root balls and roots balls from containers
  • Kitchen waste
  • Nails and metal
